The population of Greece (as well as the population of nearly all the developed countries of our planet) has grown significantly (7.6 million in 1951, 11.0 in 2014) and progressively aging (average age 29 years in 1951, 43 years in 2014, so +14 years). At the same time has reduced its fertility and increases, by approximately 10 years on average, its expected life span at birth, from 69 to 78 years for men and from 73 to 83 years for women (80% of the total inhabits urban areas in 2011) and has concentrated in an extremely limited proportion (6%) of the total area of the country with the creation of two major regions (Athens and Thessaloniki). After the war (1951) the foreigners was a few thousand. Today there are about 1,000,000 foreigners, the vast majority of whom come from the former socialist countries and the less developed regions of our planet (a significant part of them have illegally entered our country and have no residence permit)
