Depression amongst older people and their relationship with their families.

Abstract

The aim of this survey is an investigation of the connection between family bonds and depression among older people. The people who were involved in the survey were 200 older people, regardless of sex, aged above 65 years old who were members of the Open care community clubs of West Thessaloniki and Ptolemaida. Following the analysis of the results, the survey concludes that inadequate family relationships which are expressed through loneliness and distance from the family may contribute to symptoms of depression in older people.
